| November 1, 2011 European Wildlife Photographer of the Year I am very pleased to have been awarded in the European Wildlife Photography of the Year 2011 competition. The image titled 'The Water Carrier' has been highly commended in the category 'Other Animals'. In september 2009 I was invited to join a friend (thanks Arno and Andean Travel Company!) of mine to visit the Galapagos Islands. One day I photographed this Sally Lightfoot Crabs which were regularly submerged by waves. I used slow shutterspeeds to give the water a soft, silky white appearance. In this image it looks as if the adult - which has a leg missing - is trying to hold the water. On top are two grey young ones. Nikon D3 | Nikon AF-S 4/500mm | 1/40sec | f/16 | -1.0LW | ISO 100 |
