February 2011

Giraffe and Yellow-billed Oxpecker

This male Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) was visited by Yellow-billed Oxpeckers (Buphagus africanus) searching for insects and ticks. This particular oxpecker was searching in and around the mouth of the Giraffe. I deliberately composed the image with ear and eye as high as possible with the oxpecker hanging on the Giraffes lips and pushed the camera button ones. And one more time when the oxpecker flew of.

The image was made on February 14 2011 in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in the Ndutu region, on the south border of the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
